Agronomist

Qualification and other Requirements
• Technical diploma or Degree in Agricultural science of related field
• 5-7 years of experience in Agriculture field
• Experience in working in tropical climates and low-lying islands will be an added advantage
• Experience in automated hydroponic greenhouse systems will be an added advantage Main Responsibilities
• Preparing and managing plans for crop improvement and enhanced production
• Designing and coordinating land development projects for agricultural land and forests
• Planning and managing production at agricultural businesses, fruit and vegetable farms, livestock holdings and agri-food companies
• Plant treatment and green space management (agricultural, forests and urban environments)
• Laboratory testing of plant and agri-food products
• Agricultural, agri-food, livestock, forestry and environmental quality certification
• Safeguarding environmental sustainability, safety and quality
• Carrying out land-use planning in accordance with applicable legislation
• Landscape design
• Providing management and technical consultancy services to companies and other organizations
• Sale of professional agricultural products and technology
• Develop innovative research-based techniques in agronomist functions and programs.
• Create strategies in strengthening crop production and crop management.
• Study, assess and evaluate soil chemistry and soil testing.
• Initiate newer techniques in soil management processes.
• Study and evaluate plants, their biological aspects and their growth behavior.
• Deliver lectures to students on soil and crop management issues.
• Lead and guide agronomy students in research and development issues.
• Conduct research on latest trends in crop and soil management.
• Develop ways to make crops more pest-resistant.
• Develop and implement quality initiatives in agronomist programs.
