Employee Motivation - The five Factors That Drive Performance

Employee motivation may be a mystery for several managers. But, it doesn't should be. Instead, understanding how motivation impacts employee performance, and understanding how to use motivation to improve performance will be reduced to five master keys. Organizations desiring to improve employee motivation want a system in place that consistently rewards employee achievements. I am invariably surprised how few organizations have such a system.

But, not all staff respond to the identical motivations. Each person has their own likes and dislikes, passions, interests and desires. The role of the successful manager is to be told how to spot what motivates every employee, and learn the way to leverage those motives to simultaneously fulfill the goals of the organization, further because the goals of each employee.

The 5 key employee motivation factors include: satisfaction, appreciation, recognition, inspiration and compensation.

1. Employee Motivation By Building Satisfaction
In their book "The Service Profit Chain," James Heskett, W. Earl Sasser, and Leonard Schlesinger build a compelling case that regardless your business, the only method to generate sustained profits is to make a piece surroundings that draws, focuses, and keeps talented employees. In alternative words, they need to be motivated to point out up, get committed and perform at a level of excellence. Employee motivation as it relates to employees satisfaction is vitally important. And, it goes manner beyond simply a "happier workforce." Why? Because there is an simple link between glad, motivated employees, and glad customers. This may embrace a pat on the back, a hand-written note, or a fast comment within the hall. When showing appreciation, be specific. Instead of simply saying, "We tend to extremely are grateful for the great job you are doing around here," the approach may be, "I very appreciate how you handled the Franklin Industries account last week once we had to urge their rush order out late Friday afternoon. Ring a bell each time a private or team hits the assembly target. Put up posters with the images of team members who have had the most days while not accidents. Give out awards for attendance records. Simply do something. It's thus cheap, nonetheless highly effective in your efforts of employee motivation.

4. Employee Motivation Through Inspiration
Inspiration comes from leadership. This form of employee motivation includes the corporate's mission, purpose and goals. People want to be half of a corporation that's going somewhere, that stands for one thing, and that gives a meaningful service to the marketplace. If you want to lead an galvanized, mission-guided organization, follow these steps and watch employee motivation improve dramatically. Have a transparent mission - in alternative words, understand where you are going. Be excited and passionate regarding your mission. When all, if you do not get excited, they will not either.Be ready to speak the mission, it's worth to the marketplace. In other words, why it's worthwhile.Build positive everybody within the organization understands and can communicate the mission.Be positive staff understand how they work into the process of fulfilling the organization's mission.Build the association between the mission and the individual values and goals of your employees. Keep your mission in front of everyone in the organization.

5. Employee Motivation Through Compensation
Some employees are motivated by money. Of course, most are motivated by cash; at least for their basic needs. Employee motivation through compensation can come back in the shape of raises, performance bonuses, commissions, profit sharing, or any variety of "extra benefits" like, vehicles, vacations, or different tangible things purchased and used as rewards.
I noticed an attention-grabbing program in a very hotel where I recently stayed. They have a sophisticated system for rewarding employees based mostly on customer feedback. Throughout the hotel, they need placed customer feedback forms and boxes for depositing the forms. When customers touch upon the performance of a hotel employee, the employee accumulates points that may be used to buy rewards like journeys, gifts, and other incentives.

Taking Action On Employee Motivation
Whatever the chosen method, it is necessary to own a system in place that builds employee motivation. Not every person is motivated by the same factor, or combination of factors. Offering all five - satisfaction, appreciation, recognition, inspiration and compensation insures that the organization has something to contribute to the motivation of every employee.
